Summary TheRemote Journeyman Plumber maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, installs,remodels, or constructs industrial plumbing systems, various piping systems,hydronic heating systems, various air handling systems, oil burning furnaces,envirovac toilet units, fire pumps, various pumps, and plumbing equipment andsystems used in wastewater and water treatment plants. All duties are to be performed in accordancewith NMS mission, vision, and values. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Repairs and installs equipment andsystems associated with remote envirovac stations including water andwastewater pumping, storage and distribution systems. Repairs and maintains gas and dieselfired heating systems. Repairs and maintains gas distributionsystems, pressure devices and furnace appliances as well as kitchen, laundryand boiler room appliances. Tests, maintains, and repairs firesuppression systems including high volume pumping equipment and circulatingpumps. Studies building plans and othermaterials to determine work aids required and sequence of installations. Inspects structures to lay out properwork procedures. Cuts, threads, bends, and installs orrepairs a wide variety of pipes (includes medical gas systems). Assembles and installs valves, fittings,and various pipes. Tests various systems for properoperation, assembly, or to diagnose problems. May perform a variety of other dutiesrequired to maintain and operate commercial or industrial facilities. May also be designated as a RemotePlumber I, II, or III. Attends daily safety tool box meetingsand is required to do job safety evaluations for each job. Notify supervisor is safety andsanitation standards are not being met. This position has no supervisoryresponsibilities. Other duties that are pertinent to thedepartment or units success also may be assigned. Minimum Requirements Must have a High School Diploma or GEDequivalent. Must have completed a formal trainingprogram relating to the plumbing industry. Must have at least five (5) yearsverifiable industrial plumbing experience which demonstrates knowledge of waterdistribution systems, wastewater systems, industrial high volume pumpingequipment, gas distribution systems, pressure devices, gas and diesel firedheating systems and furnace appliances, appliances used in industrial kitchens,laundries, and boiler rooms, fire suppression systems, and the state plumbingcodes. Must be licensed to work as a JourneymanPlumber in the State of Alaska. Must have or obtain Backflow TesterCertification. A valid drivers license and anacceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible underNMS vehicle insurance policy. Must pass all pre-employment contractrequirements which may include but are not limited to: hair follicle drug test,physical and fit for duty assessment and hearing test. Applicants not located near a testing facilityare responsible for paying for travel to the nearest testing facility. Must be able to cooperate and work aspart of a team with fellow employees, customers and clients. Must be able to make decisions in themoment with little to no supervision. Must be able to be on your feet for 12hours per shift for the scheduled rotation. Must be able to live in dormitory stylesettings and meet cleanliness requirements of the remote camp. Contract requires employees to speak,understand, read and write English. Must meet and adhere to all safetyguidelines and regulations set forth by the company and client. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Weather:Indoor/Outdoor. Frequently exposed toarctic conditions. Noiselevel: Moderate to Loud Descriptionof environment: This is a remote camp setting. Employees must constantly be able to stand, walk, climb, push, pull usehands and arms, stoop, kneel and crouch. Employees are occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles andmay be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. Travel: Must be able to travel by plane and/or bus toremote camps. Physicalrequirements: Fit For Duty Test Lift: Lift 75 lbs. from floor to knuckle x2 Lift: Lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist x 2 Lift: Lift 25 lbs. from floor to shoulders x 2 Carry: Carry 50 lbs. with two hands for a minimumdistance of 25 feet. Push: push horizontally with a peak force of 100f-lbs. with two hands. Pull: Pull horizontally with a peak force of 100f-lbs. with two hands. Stoop& Twist: Perform alternate crossover toe touches x 10 each side, self-paced but continuous. SquatTest: Functionally squat x 10,self-paced but continuous. Kneel: Kneel on one knee and stand. Return to kneel on opposite knee. Repeat alternate kneeling sequence x 10 foreach knee, self-pace but continuous. Stairs: Climb up and down 10 steps x 10 for a totalof 100 steps using one hand to grasp a railing for safety, self-paced: Stairs& Carry: Climb up and down 5 steps x10 for a total of 50 steps while carrying 20 lbs. in one hand and using theother hand to grasp a railing for safety, self-paced. SlantedLadder: Climb a slanted ladder with 6rungs x 6 repetitions for a total of 60 rungs, self-paced but continuous.
